UNITEN - TERI Collaboration on Energy IssuesPrint this page
Putrajaya - In the new era of globalisation, it can be seen that world commerce has accelerated tremendously. This is possibly due to the ability of mankind to design, manufacture, market, trade and reengineer products at a pace never seen before on the planet. This has given rise to numerous other forms of economic activity such as transportation, financial services, infrastructure development and others - all of which has a common denominator, which is energy. It is imperative that for long term sustainability and growth of a nation, the energy issue is addressed quickly and accurately.
In view of the above concern, Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) has taken an initiative to collaborate with The Energy Resources Institute (TERI) New Delhi, India to work on common solutions of the energy resources issues. The first step is the establishment of Centre for Energy and Environment Studies, known as Institute of Energy Policy and Research (IEPRe) in UNITEN.
IEPRe is expected to undertake interdisciplinary research on issues related to energy and environment, which would aid the government, corporate, and other stakeholders in making informed decisions. It would also create and disseminate knowledge related to energy and environment through short-term courses as well as through postgraduate and doctoral courses. The aim of IEPRe would be to enrich the existing knowledge base on a number of aspects of energy and environment such as energy economics, renewable energy, climate change, energy security, energy efficiency, energy-poverty linkages, energy sector reforms and regulations, and others.
To strengthen the collaboration, an official exchanging of MoA document ceremony between UNITEN and TERI took place at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), October 27, 2010.
UNITEN was represented by its Vice Chancellor, Y.Bhg. Prof. Dato' Ir. Dr. Mashkuri Yaacob and Dr. Leena Srivastava, Executive Director for TERI. This ceremony was witnessed by none other than our Prime Minister, Y.A.B Dato' Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak in conjunction with Khazanah Global Lectures held at the same venue.
