Date: 24/11/2011
The President of the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) UK, Prof Roger Plank and committee members of IStructE (Malaysia Division) will pay an official visit to Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) on Wednesday, 14th December 2011 with the objective to streghten an excellent working relationships with UNITEN. Apart from fostering fellowships with members of UNITEN, the IStructE's President is keen to promote and enhance continuous good fellowship and cooperation between UNITEN and IStructE. This concept of partnership is one of the foundation stones of academic and industry and working collectively will produce results creating a better future for all.
In particular, Prof Planks's visit is to thank UNITEN for jointly organising the Asia Universities Build & Break Competition (APUBBC) for the past 4 years since 2008 for the mutual benefits of both Institutions. APUBBC is exemplary because it is intended to develop creativity amongst civil engineering students in structural design and to apply knowledge and theory from their course study into practice. The competition requires participating teams to build on the spot, a structural model which shall meet the design requirements specified by the judges. This APUBBC is indeed a good exposure to students, as in general, they must always challenge and stretch themselves, and must always be creative coming up with new ideas and approaches.
Prof Roger Plank, a practitioner, educationist and researcher, is also scheduled to deliver a cordial talk on "Innovation and Creativity in Structural Steel Design" to UNITEN students during the visit.
