At TNB, staffs are encouraged to be sensitive towards environmental issues. Efforts are made to reduce paper usage, minimise wasteful lighting and air-conditioning, and to switch to environment-friendly products.

In August 2009, the management at the Janamanjung plant implemented MEDALS (Manjung Electronic Document and Library System), which marks a significant step towards achieving a paperless administration. This has proven to be very effective, spurring other power stations and divisions within the Group to request for knowledge-sharing sessions on the system.

Meanwhile, the Transmission Division has gone a step further in protecting the environment. It has adopted a Tree-for-a-Tree programme, under which each tree felled for development purposes is replaced by the planting of a new tree in another location. Staffs from Transmission also collaborate with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to carry out environmental projects such as river and seashore clean-ups, and wildlife conservation.
