UNIVERSITI TENAGA NASIONAL

Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) celebrated its 10th year anniversary in 2007. Indeed, this 'young' university has come a long way from being a respected vocational institute in 1976 to an internationally recognised university. The official birth of UNITEN a decade ago was a milestone and that lifted the institution to a new level of tertiary achievement.

Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) is one of the biggest and most well-managed power company in Asia. Hence, as Malaysia's first privately funded university, wholly owned by TNB, UNITEN is a unique educational institution that unites both academic programmes and techno-skills under one roof. The decision to upgrade this vocational centre to a university status required a lot of financial investments and commitment by TNB. Fortunately, these commitments together with a far-sighted vision and a dedicated management team have succeeded. To assist UNITEN Putrajaya toward greater success, another campus was opened in Bandar Muadzam Shah in Pahang and the College of Business Administration and Accounting was moved there to allow it to expand. This sister campus has brought about positive economic changes to the surrounding community and made tertiary education more accessible to them.

UNITEN's Vision of "Becoming a Premier University in Engineering, Information Technology and Business" has been closely supported by its implemented Mission of "Delivering a Unique and Enriching Learning Experience that Fosters Innovation and Research." Recently, UNITEN has also unveiled its roadmap whereby it hopes to be among the top 50 universities in the world by 2020. Indeed today UNITEN is a well-known institution of higher learning, which offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Currently, it has secured over 24 accredited programmes in Engineering, Computer Sciences, Information Technology, Accounting and Business Management. On top of that, UNITEN's Accounting programmes has also been given recognition by international professional bodies. UNITEN has also established a research management centre and offers various consultancy and training services. Current students, staff and alumni have also won diverse awards and accolades both locally and internationally and will continue to bring fame and recognition to this young university.

In addition to generating skilled professionals, UNITEN takes pride in developing well-rounded, adaptable, and ethical individuals with a broad world-view, to be the catalysts for universal well-being. Within 10 years over 9000 students have graduated and attained successful positions in various industries. Its graduates can be seen at Intel, Shell, Schlumberger, ESSO, Sony, Carrier, Malakoff and governmental agencies as diplomatic and administration officers. Indeed UNITEN has proudly earned itself a name as a centre of academic excellence for Malaysian and international students.

The UNITEN main campus stands impressively on 214-hectares of rolling terrain amid lush greenery, yet in close range of the commercial and cultural activities of the well-developed Klang Valley. The main campus is strategically located within the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) and Putrajaya, with Cyberjaya as the MSC hub nearby.

With the support of TNB, the parent entity, UNITEN has upgraded its infrastructure rapidly, its programmes and services to be a world-class university, which will continue into the future in line with its commitment to fulfil the needs of Malaysia and the global community for excellent tertiary education and technical expertise.
