Speaking after unveiling Telekom Malaysia’s new brand identity yesterday, Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi was quoted as saying that although the restructuring of GLCs at the moment is up to expectations, they need to make the companies a little bit trimmer, less staff and at the same time more competitive and efficient. GLCs must undergo more changes, internal restructuring and transformation in their quest to improve efficiency and their image and compete in the global market. They must ensure good returns to their shareholders and at the same time maintain the best corporate management. He feels that GLCs like Tenaga Nasional, Malaysia Airlines and Telekom Malaysia should always take the approach to improve their performance and become global companies. He also said that the Government is committed to reduce its stake in GLCs to a certain minimum level that is acceptable.
