Tenaga Nasional Berhad gained global recognition for its inclusion in the Platts Top 250 Company 2008 list during an awards ceremony for the Asia/Pacific regions held on 20 October 2008 at Singapore. The function organised by the Platts Global Energy Award which has its base in New York, USA, was graced by Mr S. Iswaran, Senior Minister of Trade & industries; and Ms Victoria Chu Pao, President Platts and Representative Power Companies Asia/Australia. TNB's Senior Vice President (Corporate Affairs) accepted the award for TNB from Mr Dan Tranz, Vice President of Platts. Other officials who were present at the ceremony were Datuk Mohd Aminuddin Mohd Amin, General Manager (TNB Johor); Mr John Thaddeus, General Manager (Pasir Gudang Power Station); and Haji Mohd Ali Mungai, Head (Productivity Quality Management). The award is presented to a company who has shown excellent performance in terms of financial management and administration based on special criteria's established by Platts. According to the 2008 rankings, TNB is ranked 100 from a list of 250 power companies worldwide. This ranking is on top of several companies in modern countries such as Esso Saf, France (102), Caltex Australia (106), United Utilities, U.K. (120), EGL Switzerland (171), El Paso Corp., USA (177) and others. Concurrently, TNB ranked 18 from a total of 59 companies in the Asia/Australia region in the same Platts Top 250 Global Company 2008 list. The standing is a major improvement in comparison to the 32nd ranking in year 2007 and 43rd in year 2006. This new development surpasses that of other significant power giants in Asia/Australia which includes CLP Holding, Hong Kong (20), Caltex Australia (21), Tokyo Electric Power Co. Ltd, Japan (24), China Coal Energy, China (29), Tokyo Gas Co. Ltd., Japan (40), Osaka Gas Co. Ltd., Japan (44) and Hokkaido Electric Power Co., Japan (58).
