Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) is the proud recipient of Prime Minister's Award for Industry Excellence and Quality Management Excellence Award (QMEA) - Category III for the year 2009.
The Prime Minister's Award for Industry Excellence is the Government's effort in recognising local companies who have displayed excellence in organisation, innovation and corporate social responsibility. Participating companies are evaluated based on eight key criteria which comprise of Top Management Leadership and Management of Quality, Use of Quality Data and Information, Human Resource Management, Customer Focus, Quality Assurance of External Suppliers, Process Management, Quality and Operational/Business Results and Corporate Social Responsibility.
The award was presented by YB Dato' Sri Mustapa Mohamed, Minister of International Trade and Industry (MITI) to Y. Bhg. Tan Sri Leo Moggie, TNB Chairman during its ceremony held on March 25, 2010 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center. Also present was YB Dato' Mukhriz Mahathir, Deputy Minister of MITI and Y. Bhg. Dato' Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh, President/CEO of TNB.
Apart from UNITEN, Tenaga Switchgear Sdn. Bhd. was listed among the finalists for QMEA Category II.
This award symbolises the recognition of UNITEN's efforts in achieving quality and excellence in providing education service to the nation. In the past few years, UNITEN has made progress in quality management through quality assurance and performance monitoring system. UNITEN's Quality Initiative Framework (QIF) consists of quality excellence awards; academic performance audits; QMS ISO and Quality Environment (QE) certifications; internalization of core values - Integrity, Customer Focus, Business Excellence and Caring; Quality Month; and Safety Excellence Management System (SEMS). UNITEN has made excellent marks through teaching, research and scholarship in the areas of engineering, information technology, and business. UNITEN represented Malaysia in the 2009 World Solar Challenge; emerged as the first university in Malaysia to obtain QE certification; won the National QE award in 2008, won various national and international research and innovation awards; and a recipient of research grants from Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation (MOSTI) and Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE).
