CMCO: TNB Operations & Energy Efficiency Tips

13/10/2020

Customers of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) will continue to receive bills through physical delivery by meter readers during the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) in Selangor, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya effective October 14 to October 27, 2020.

Electric meter readings in residential or consumer premises will be done by TNB meter readers as usual throughout the CMCO period, taking into account the standard operating procedure guidelines (SOP) set by the government to ensure the safety and well-being of customers and meter readers.

Thus, the customer’s bill is based on the actual reading and not the estimated reading. TNB would like to advise customers to practice prudent electricity consumption during the CMCO period as household electricity consumption may increase higher than usual, may it be complying instructions to stay at home, work from home or attend virtual learning sessions.

Therefore, by referring to the previous MCO implemented on 18 March 2020, the public is advised to be more aware of electricity consumption patterns and adopt practical guidelines such as:

  1. Ensure that all doors, windows and ventilation outlets are tightly closed when using an air conditioner to keep the cold air in. Switch on the fan to help cool the room temperature so that the air conditioner temperature can be adjusted higher (between 24 to 26 degrees Celsius) to save electricity;

  2. Clean the air conditioner filter to maximize the cooling process. Dirty filters prevent airflow and reduce air conditioning efficiency;

  3. Avoid washing clothes with hot water, unless necessary and using a fully loaded washing machine;

  4. Reduce the usage of clothes dryers. Take advantage of the hot weather to dry clothes naturally;

  5. Turn off the switch and unplug electrical appliances when not in use and do not allow electrical appliances such as fans to be left on in an empty room; and

  6. Cut down on shower time if a water heater is in use

Customers may find out more information on prudent energy efficiency tips by visiting the link www.mytnb.com.my.

In the meantime, customers will continue to enjoy the Economic Stimulus Discount up to 50 percent for monthly electricity consumption under the Economic Stimulus Package (PRIHATIN) which is extended until 31 December 2020.

Government initiatives that benefit more than 7 million residential customers will be continued to help adapt to the current economic recovery of the country. More information on Discounts can be found at www.tnb.com.my/prihatin.

Customers are also encouraged to conduct any TNB transaction online during CMCO to reduce the need to conduct face-to-face transactions at Kedai Tenaga. Transactions can be done via myTNB portal or mobile app.

However, Kedai Tenaga in the affected areas will continue to operate according to normal operating hours for the convenience of customers from 9 am to 4 pm while TNB kiosks will operate between 8:15 am to 10 pm.

In the event of a power outage, customers can contact TNB CareLine at 15454 or visit TNB CareLine Facebook.
