Sending School Assistance for the Orang Asli of SK Sg Sungai Tiang

09/02/2019

Realizing the teachers and parents are unable to attend the Back to School Program at Bersia Power Station (SJ), more than 20 employees of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) were willing to walk through the forests of Belum Forest in order to deliver school assistance through the Back to School Program (BTS) to Orang Asli children, recently.

The arduous journey consisted of riding a four-wheel drive from Bersia to Pengkalan Trojan for almost half an hour, followed by over an hour boat ride through Lake Temenggor to Lake Belum before walking to the Orang Asli village in Sungai Tiang.

The recipients include approximately 46 students of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sungai Tiang who received full bags of clothes, trousers, socks, shoes and stationeries.

"Alhamdulillah the school is very thankful of TNB's consideration. There’s nothing better than making these children happy from getting all new school equipment like the children in the country and in the cities; just like the lyrics of this school song, ‘even far away in the jungle, my heart is still cheerful’,” said the school's headmaster, Mohamad SharapiSamsun.

These children and teachers need to walk and ride a boat before riding any land transport whether it’s a car or a bus if they want to attend SJ Bersia.

Understanding this situation, members of SJ Bersia with representatives of TNB's internal union agreed to visit their school.

TNB is also active in Kampung Orang Asli Kampung Sungai Tiang, through engagement with the project management of fishery resources for fish crews there.

This visit to SK Sungai Tiang is also accompanied by clubs and associations within TNB.
