TNB’s Energy Transition Conference: Convergence of International Experts to Discourse ET Pathways

24/02/2023

Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) will unite international thought leaders, experts, industry players, policymakers, and communities on 28–29 August 2023 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre for a discourse on Energy Transition challenges.

The national electricity utility corporation is organising The Energy Transition Conference, Malaysia’s premier platform to stimulate solutions and spur collaborations across various economic sectors in addressing Energy Transition.

“The conference will feature the innovative ways different industries and community groups can accelerate a responsible Energy Transition,” said TNB President and Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Indera Ir. Baharin Din.

While public discourse is normally centered around shifting energy sources from fossil fuels to greener sources, Baharin said Energy Transition transcends beyond the energy sector.

“Our analyses show that a bigger shift into Energy Transition will accelerate the environmental benefits to help Malaysia meet its climate change-related commitment while simultaneously reinvigorating the economy and society via potential GDP growth of 5.6% and carbon avoidance of 142 MtCO2e/year by 2040.

“Everyone has a part to play in reducing their carbon footprint in their daily life –from the way we commute and the way we produce and use resources efficiently to how we create sustainable communities for a greener future.”

He stressed that The Energy Transition Conference is anchored on the Energy Transition in three different categories namely Power, Transportation and Cities. These topics will be covered across four specific themes comprising Renewable Energy, Decarbonisation, Digitalisation and Energy Transition Enablers such as policy, market, and capabilities.

“Participants will also be exposed to the available sustainable solutions and technologies through the exhibition and business matching session. Through this conference cum exhibition event, we also aim to stimulate local and regional markets for Energy Transition.

“In fact, this conference calls attention to the strategic discourse around the transformative policies, regulations, and financial incentives to advance the Energy Transition agenda. We believe that our participants can leverage this platform to engage with strategic technology partners in helping them address their Environmental, Social, and Governance commitments and contribute towards helping Malaysia become a low-carbon nation,” said Baharin.

TNB is committed to drive the nation's Energy Transition agenda through its Net Zero emission aspiration in support of Malaysia’s target to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. In pursuit to fast-track its responsible energy transition plan, TNB is continuing its huge investment in the Grid of the Future; accelerating decarbonisation to increase the enterprise value of its power generation arm, TNB Genco; expanding focus markets to grow its RE portfolio; and focusing on electric vehicle ecosystem development.
