Electrical Safety Guidelines During FloodingPrint this page 

Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) urges the public to observe the following safety guidelines in the event of flooding.

Electrical Equipment

mainswitchBe careful when using electrical appliances when the water level is rising in your home.

If you are instructed to move to a temporary evacuation center, make sure the main switch is off.

  • Do not touch any electrical appliances or switches with wet hands
  • Make sure appliances which are submerged in flood water are inspected and tested by certified electrical contractors before reuse

TNB Installation

Always keep an eye on your children to not come close to a fallen power lines or broken electrical wires.

floodIf there is any broken electric wire or fallen power lines, do not try to repair the damage yourself. Instead, contact the nearest TNB Office or immediately call our TNB Careline at 15454.

In order to avoid possible electric shock, stay away from areas where water levels rise and might reach TNB wires. Report the matter to any TNB offices at once.


Do not come close to any electric wires

When there is heavy rain or flooding, electrical wires and poles will be exposed to hazards such as fallen trees. If this occurs:pothole

  • Do not approach broken electric wires on the ground because the wire might still have electricity
  • Do not try to remove broken electrical wires by hand or any other electric conductor
  • Do not come near any potholes which might have live broken wires as water can conduct electricity

Our Action

substationTNB will continuously monitor the flood situation from time to time.

If the water reaches a dangerous level, TNB will temporarily shut down the electricity supply to nearby substations in order to ensure public safety.

Electricity supply will be restored once the flooding has subsided.
