Power Generation

TNB, through its subsidiary TNB Power Generation Sdn. Bhd., is Malaysia’s largest power producer, contributing 54% generation market share in Peninsular Malaysia. In Sabah, generation activities are undertaken via Sabah Electricity Sdn. Bhd. (SESB), supporting the state’s energy needs. Internationally, TNB’s presence extends to the United Kingdom (UK), Australia and Turkiye through its New Energy Division (NED), reflecting a growing and diversified global footprint.

TNB Genco offers comprehensive asset management, operations and maintenance (O&M), maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO), diagnostics, and engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) services, reinforcing its operational excellence. In line with the Group’s Net Zero 2050 aspiration, TNB is steadily transitioning towards cleaner energy solutions, exemplified by the award-winning Sultan Ibrahim Power Plant, which was recognised as the 2021 Power Plant of the Year.

Grid

In compliance with the Malaysian Grid Code, TNB’s Grid Division is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and economical operation of the electricity transmission system. The Division manages and operates TNB’s National Grid, comprising the 132kV, 275kV, and 500kV transmission networks across Peninsular Malaysia. In Sabah, grid activities are managed separately by SESB.

Its core functions include strategy formulation, system planning, engineering, project management, maintenance, and wayleave management. The National Grid is interconnected with regional systems: to the north with Thailand’s Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) via a 300MW High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) link and a 132kV High Voltage Alternating Current (HVAC) overhead line (80MW); and to the south with Singapore’s transmission system at Senoko via 230kV submarine cables with the capacity of 2 x 550MVA providing a firm capacity of 200MW. 

Distribution Network

The Division is responsible for the planning, construction, operation, maintenance, and asset management of the 33kV, 11kV, 6.6kV, and 0.4kV distribution networks across Peninsular Malaysia. In Sabah, the distribution network is independently managed by SESB.

Retail

Established in 2018, TNB’s Retail Division is committed to creating value for customers, employees, and shareholders by delivering customer-centric experiences across all engagement channels—Click, Call, Come Over, and Go Over. This is supported by a strong presence across Peninsular Malaysia, comprising 13 state offices, 126 Kedai Tenaga outlets, and 3 CareLine offices. In Sabah, the management of retail activities is undertaken separately by Sabah Electricity Sdn. Bhd. (SESB).

With a mandate that goes beyond energy, the division also develops smart energy solutions tailored to diverse customer segments, from large corporations and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to micro-businesses and residential users—supporting their transition towards a smarter, more sustainable energy lifestyle.
