Introducing TNB e-Invoice Registration Platform for Registered TNB customers

TNB is introducing the official e-Invoice Registration Platform for all registered TNB customers. This initiative is in compliance with the mandate from the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (IRBM) or also known  as Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri Malaysia (LHDNM) under Section 82C of the Income Tax Act 1967 (ITA 1967), effective from 1 August 2024.

The e-Invoice initiative, as outlined by IRBM, offers key benefits including enhanced business efficiency, reduced manual efforts and human errors, streamlined tax filing, and digitalised tax and financial reporting. For more information about e-Invoice, visit the IRBM website at www.hasil.gov.my/en/e-invoice.

To facilitate a smooth transition to e-Invoice, we kindly request your cooperation in updating the necessary information. Please provide the essential details and supporting documents required for registration.

Platform Availability and Registration Details:

  • Launch Date: The TNB e-Invoice Registration Portal is available from 9 July 2024.
  • Who Can Register for e-Invoice: Only registered TNB customers can update their details and submit the required documents, as well as provide consent to subscribe to e-Invoice.
  • Convenient Billing: By agreeing to the e-Invoice Terms and Conditions, you will receive your electricity bills in a convenient PDF format via email, complete with a QR code, linking to the validated e-Invoice on the IRBM’s myInvois Portal.
  • No more printed bills are sent to your premises.
  • myTNB Access: Registered myTNB users can also view and download their electricity bills from the myTNB portal and app.

Update Your Data

  • Visit the TNB e-Invoice Registration Portal.

Give Your Consent

To ensure a seamless transition to the e-Invoice system and benefit fully from its advantages, TNB has outlined specific eligibility criteria for registered TNB customers, which are as follows:

1. Registered  TNB Accounts

  • All registered TNB customers with active accounts can subscribe to e-Invoice. An account is active if it receives regular monhtly electricity bill.
  • Customers must select the type of electricity account for registration. The types of accounts are:
    • Individual: A registered TNB  customer with an account using an identification document such as MyKad, Army ID, Police ID, or passport.
    • Organisation: Includes companies, societies, enterprises, etc., registered with the Registration of Society (ROS) or the Registration of Company (ROC).
    • Government: Includes both federal and state government entities.

2. Consent and Data Update

  • Customers must provide consent to subscribe to e-Invoice and email billing.
  • Update all required details accurately and relevant supporting documents to ensure smooth registration verification by TNB.

3. Digital Access

  • Customers must have a valid email address to receive the e-Invoice in a convenient PDF format via email, complete with a QR code, linking to the validated e-Invoice on the IRBM’s myInvois Portal.
  • Ensure you have regular access to email and digital platforms for viewing and managing your invoices.

Meeting these eligibility requirements enables you to  seamlessly transition to e-Invoice, enhancing your billing experience with greater convenience, security and efficiency.

1. What is e-Invoice?

An e-Invoice is a digital representation of a transaction between a supplier (i.e. TNB)  and a buyer, (registered TNB customer) which requires verification from the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (IRBM) before it is issued to customers.  It includes essential information such as the supplier's and buyer's details, item descriptions, quantities, prices (before tax), taxes, and total amount. These records capture transaction data essential for business operations.

In the context of TNB, the implementation of the e-Invoice initiative is to replace printed bills with electronic invoices in PDF format, encompassing electricity bills, Consumer Connection Charges (CSP), processing fees, credit notes, debit notes and refund notes.

The e-Invoice, as outlined by IRBM, offers several benefits including enhanced business efficiency, reduced manual effort and human errors, streamlined tax filing, and digitalised tax and financial reporting. 2. Who needs to register for e-invoice?

All registered TNB customers with active accounts can subscribe to e-Invoice. An account is active if it  receives regular monhtly electricity bill.  Customers must select the type of electricity account for registration. The types of accounts are:

4. I would like to register for e-Invoice through TNB's e-Invoice Registration Portal. Could you walk me through the steps?

Here’s how you can register for e-Invoice via TNB's e-Invoice Registration portal:

  1. Visit the TNB e-Invoice Registration Portal
  2. Verify Email
    • Confirm your email address.
       
  3. Select Account Type
    • Choose your type of electricity account.
       
  4. Enter e-Invoice Information
    • Fill in the required details.
       
  5. Upload Documents
    • Attach the necessary supporting documents and the maximum size for each file to be uploaded must not exceed 15MB. Only PDF, .jpeg, and PNG are allowed.
       
  6. Consent to Terms and Conditions
    • Agree to the e-Invoice Terms and Conditions.
       
  7. Submit Registration
    • Submit your information and supporting documents for your e-Invoice registration.
       
  8. Receive Notification
    • After verification by TNB, you will receive an email notification via your registered email address.
       

5. What information and documents are required for registration?

In compliance with the regulations set by IRBM, registered TNB customers who plan to enrol in e-Invoice are required to provide the following information:

6. How can I obtain my Tax Identification Number (TIN) and Tax Return Form for e-invoice registration?

Tax Identification Number (TIN) and Tax Return Form can be obtained through:

  • MyTax Portal at mytax.hasil.gov.my
  • HASiL Live chat
  • HASiL Care Line at 03-8911 1000
  • Visit the nearest HASiL branch

7. How will I receive my monthly electricity bills once I register for e-Invoice?

If you are registered as myTNB user, your monthly electricity bills are available on the myTNB portal and app. Additionally, your electricity bills will be sent to the email address that you have provided for e-Invoice registration.

For organizations or goverment institutions with multiple electricity accounts, you will receive your monthly electricity bill via registered email address that you have provided for e-Invoice registration. If you are registered as myTNBiz user, your monthly electricity bills are available on the myTNBiz portal.

8. What security measures are in place to protect my data and transactions?

9. Can I track the status of my e-Invoice registration on the TNB e-Invoice Registration portal?

No. The TNB’s e-Invoice Registration portal is solely for registration. Depending on the method of registration, you will receive a notification of successful registration via email or SMS, as outlined in Q3.

10. What should I do if the TNB account is not registered under my name? For example, if it is still registered under a previous owner, a late family member, or I am renting, how do I provide the required information and documents?

If the registered TNB account is not under your name, you may apply to change the registered account name to your name through the Change of Tenancy (COT) process before proceeding with your e-Invoice registration submission. For more details, please visit myTNB - Residential - Change of Tenancy.

For organizations or goverment institutions, if you are renting your business premises and the TNB account is registered under landlord's name, you may apply to change the registered account name through the Change of Tenancy (COT) process before proceeding with your e-Invoice registration submission. 11. If I register for e-Invoice in August 2024, will I receive the e-invoice for my August 2024 electricity bill?

e-Invoices will be issued after the e-Invoice registration is successful. For example, if you register successfully in August 2024, TNB will re-issue an e-Invoice for your August 2024 electricity bill if you have received your August 2024 electricity bill previously. Otherwise, you will start receiving e-Invoice from September

12. If I register for e-Invoice in October 2024, can I request the previous months’ e-Invoices like August and September 2024?

No, you will not be able to receive e-Invoice for months prior to your registration date. e-Invoices will only be available from the month following your successful registration.

72 HOURS RULE

14. I received my latest electricity bill, which I can view on MyInvois Portal. Can I reject the bill through MyInvois Portal if there is an error?

Yes, you can reject the bill through MyInvois Portal if there is an error. This portal is one of the mediums recognized by LHDN, and rejection can only be made within 72 hours after the bill is issued.

15. Do I still need to pay the current electricity bill if I have rejected it on the MyInvois Portal?

Yes, you are advised to pay the bill to meet the 30-day credit term and avoid a 1% late payment penalty charge. Any bill adjustments, whether through a debit or credit note, will be made in the next billing cycle. TNB is not required to make adjustments within 72 hours.
