A Journey towards Energy Transition - A Seminar on United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 7

As the national utility company in Malaysia, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) is in the driver’s seat to deliver the nation’s energy transition and is on a committed pathway to achieve its Environment, Sustainability and Governance (ESG) objectives. In line with this target and to encourage constructive national discourse on the subject, TNB is collaborating with the Economic Planning Unit, Prime Minister’s Department (EPU), to host a seminar on Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7).

Themed “A Journey Towards Energy Transition”, the Seminar seeks to highlight the collective roles and efforts across the public and private sectors in developing and supporting the country’s United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) targets. Together, TNB and EPU seek to focus the attention on the nation’s goal to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and clean energy. 

This half-day event, on 9th August 2022, will be featuring a keynote address by the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economy), Dato’ Sri Mustapa bin Mohamed.

There will be a panel discussion entitled ‘Collaboration Towards the Future of Clean Energy in Malaysia’. This discussion will feature esteemed panelists from the industry, such as Datuk Fazlur Rahman Zainuddin, Chief Strategy and Ventures Officer TNB; Gan Pek Chuan, Head of Sustainable and Resilient Development, UNDP Country Office for Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei; Syed Malek Faisal Syed Mohamad, Head of Business Development, Renewable Energy, GENTARI and Steven Arokiasamy Thangaraju, Council Member, Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM). The session will be moderated by Nur Ayuni Zainal Abidin, Principal Assistant Director, Energy Division, Economic Planning Unit, Prime Minister’s Department (EPU).

This session will among other things, discuss on matters such as energy transition and how to manage the energy trillema; the pathway to this transition; critical enablers and the various ways to move Malaysia forward towards this goal, through public-private collaboration. 

The seminar will be concluded with a presentation paper by Abdul Razib Dawood, CEO, Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST) entitled ‘Public Role Towards the Future of Clean Energy in Malaysia’. This presentation will showcase how Malaysians can play an active role in the nation’s journey towards clean energy.
