TNB Pledges Almost RM28 Million to Battle COVID-19

03/04/2020

  • Additional RM17.5 million to the RM10 million previously pledged
  • Perak receives RM2 million for procurement of medical equipment and necessities

Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) pledged RM2 million to the Perak State Government as part of a RM17.5 million financial assistance, it is directly distributing to the states in the Peninsular in support of the battle against the onslaught of COVID-19.

The RM2 million aid was handed over by the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Dato’ Dr. Shamsul Anuar Nasarah to Perak Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri Ahmad Faizal Dato’ Azumu during a brief ceremony at Perak Darul Ridzuan Building in Ipoh, today.

Also present were TNB Chief Retail Officer, Ir. Megat Jalaluddin Megat Hassan and TNB Perak Chief of Customer Service, Dato’ Raja Abdul Jalil Raja Zaid.

“TNB was among the earliest corporate entity that lent assistance in the Government’s fight against the COVID-19 virus outbreak by pledging RM10 million for the Ministry of Health’s purchase of medical equipment and supplies,” said Shamsul Anuar in his speech at the ceremony.

The additional assistance of RM17.5 million handed over to the State Governments brings TNB’s total aid for COVID-19 battle to almost RM28 million. The aid enables the states through their respective State Health Departments to procure the necessary medical equipment like ventilators and other supplies.

The RM2 million to Perak will enable the Perak Health Department to procure their medical supplies and equipment, including ventilators and RM500,000 financial assistance to Manjung Hospital.

“TNB’s assistance to fight the battle against the COVID-19 outbreak goes beyond financial assistance as thousands of its employees are working at the frontline during the Movement Control Order (MCO),” added Shamsul Anuar.

“They are fully dedicated to ensure uninterruptible and stable electricity supply services, especially at the hospital and medical centres.”

Besides the financial aid, TNB is also co-subsidising RM150 million in support of the Government’s move to give tiered electricity discounts for residential/domestic customers.

In the Economic Stimulus Package announced by the Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Mohd Yassin last week, residential/domestic customers will benefit from electricity discounts ranging between 2 to 50 per cent for the next six months, beginning April 1st, 2020 until September 30th, 2020.
