Electricity Tariff Classification
In general, TNB electricity tariff classification is based on consumer business activity at the said premise and its supply voltage level. In the event there is changes in activity at the said premise which requires change in consumer tariff category, the following actions may be taken;
- Consumer may apply for change of tariff to TNB
-
TNB deserves the right to change consumer's tariff based on actual activity at the said premise
For example, the default tariff for properties or premises such as serviced apartments, SOHO, SOVO and SOFO is Tariff B - Low Voltage Commercial Tariff as these premises are normally built on gazetted commercial lands. However if these premises are used for private dwelling purposes, the owner of these premises may apply for a change of tariff from Tariff B to Tariff A - Domestic with TNB. Application can be done online via myTNB Portal or at the nearest Kedai Tenaga.
Summary of TNB tariff classification as follows;
1. Customer category (business activity)
- Domestic
- Commercial
- Industrial
- Mining
- Street lighting
- Specific Agriculture
2. Supply voltage
Voltage Level* | Supply Voltage |
Low Voltage Single Phase Three Phase |
Extra Low Voltage (V ≤ 50V) Low Voltage (50V < V ≤1kV) |
Medium Voltage |
Medium Voltage (1kV < V ≤ 50kV) |
High Voltage |
High Voltage 50kV < V ≤ 230kV Extra High Voltage 230kV < V |
*Voltage level for tariff classification
3. Usage profile (i.e. operation hours – 24 hours or not)
(Monday to Sunday)
Peak : 0800-2200
Off-Peak : 2200-0800

Top-Up and Standby Services (only for co-generators)
“Co-generator”means a generator who that uses a single primary energy source to sequentially generate two different forms of useful energy for its own use at an efficiency rate of more than 70%. Services offered to co-generators are:
Top-up supply: The additional supply required by a Co-generator who that does not produce sufficient electricity for its own use.
Standby supply: The supply that TNB provides to a Co-generator in the event that the Co-generator does not generate electricity due to plant failure or planned shutdown for maintenance.
