Double Victory for UNITEN in Robogamez 2011

Putrajaya - Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) conquered the two top spots in UNITEN the Robogamez 2011 after sweeping aside other teams in the open category.

The champion, CEO Kiosk 2 won RM3,000.00 in cash, together with trophies and certificates of participation, while first runner-up, CEO Kiosk 1 grabbed RM2,000.00, trophies and participation certificates. Third place was won by DH Robotic and Automation which took home RM1,500.00, trophies and certificate of participation.

With the theme of “Soccerbotz Showdown : Goal Storm Arena”, the competition focused on getting a robot to score goal in given time. The competition was divided into two categories - open category for all local universities and exhibition category.

A total of six teams from local universities including Universiti Malaya, German-Malaysian Institute, Universiti Teknikal Malaysia, Melaka, Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, Perak, Politeknik Merlimau Melaka, Institut Latihan Perindustrian Kuala Langat, Selangor and DH Robotic and Automation.

For exhibition category, the teams came from secondary schools around the Klang Valley such as Sekolah Menengah Sains Seri Puteri, Cyberjaya, Sekolah Sri Al-Amin, Bangi,  Sekolah Menengah Seksyen 9,  Shah Alam, and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seksyen 5, Wangsa Maju were involved.

This annual event which began in 2005 was officiated by Dato’ Ir. Azman bin Mohd, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) Executive Director/Chief Operating Officer. In his closing speech, Dato’ Ir. Azman urged the students to take the opportunity to explore the extensive use of science and technology in this competition which will expose students and participants to a holistic experience including teaching them the importance of being technologically skilled in a world dominated by technology.

“Through experience in Robogamez 2011, students can obtain management skills that will help develop a sense of responsibility, cooperativeness, leadership, and effective communication.  The Robogamez tournament is in line with the Ministry of Higher Education’s mission to encourage the growth of individuals who are competent, innovated with high moral values in order to meet national and international needs”, he added. 
Robogamez 2011 which was held at Dewan Seri Sarjana, UNITEN on 3 December 2011 is organized by College of Engineering, UNITEN together with Mobile Robotics Club and supported by Ministry of Higher Education and TNB.
