RPS Dala Solar Hybrid System in Gerik, Perak officiated by DYMM Sultan of Perak

Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) achieved another milestone with the official ceremony of the RPS Dala Solar Hybrid System in Gerik, Perak by DYMM Sultan of Perak, Sultan Azlan Muhibuddin Shah on 4 June 2009. RPS Dala Solar Hybrid System project is one of TNB’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives with the theme ‘Powering Communities’. The Solar Hybrid System in Gerik, Perak is the first solar hybrid project in Perak. Previously, TNB has implemented similar solar hybrid systems in Mount Machinchang, Pulau Langkawi, Kedah, Kg. Denai, Pahang as well as in Pulau Aur, Pulau Sibu, Pulau Besar, Pulau Pemanggi & Pulau Tinggi, Johor. In his opening address, TNB’s Chairman, Tan Sri Leo Moggie said, “It’s the Company’s commitment to support the Rural Electrification Program (Program Bekalan Elektrik Luar Bandar - BELB) and the Government’s 5th Fuel Policy (Dasar Bahanapi Kelima) which emphasises the usage of renewable energy. TNB is proud to introduce yet another project to improve the lifestyle quality of the people who live in the remote areas.” A Solar Hybrid power plant is an innovative electricity supply system which runs on diesel and sun rays tapped from solar panels to provide 24-hour electricity supply to remote areas. Tan Sri Leo Moggie added that the system runs automatically and requires minimal manpower to supervise and monitor it. In addition, generating electricity using solar panels is cleaner and more environmental friendly. Also present at the officiating ceremony were DYMM Raja Permaisuri Perak, DYTM Raja Di Hilir Perak and DYTM Raja Ashman Ibni Sultan Azlan, YAB Menteri Besar Perak, Y.B Datuk Peter Chin Fah Kui, Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water, and Perak’s Royal dignitaries.
