Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) signs MoU with Hanze University Groningen, the Netherlands

A Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony between Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) and Hanze University Groningen, the Netherlands was held on Friday, 13th November 2009 at UNITEN. The event was witnessed by delegates from the Embassy of Netherlands and was signed by UNITEN’s Vice Chancellor, Y.Bhg. Prof. Dato’ Ir. Dr. Mashkuri Yaacob and Mr. Karel van Berkel, Strategy Advisor of Hanze University Groningen. The MOU marks the mutual understanding and commitment from both institutions. The potential areas for collaborations include joint facilitation and supervision of postgraduate studies, exchange of academic staff, joint research and teaching activities, participation in seminars and academic meetings, exchange of publications, academic materials and other information, academic quality assurance and consultation, academic programme development, joint publications, conferences, symposia as well as student study abroad and exchange programmes. Hanze University Groningen is one of the best public universities in the Netherlands, established in 1798. It is a university which specialises in applied sciences with more than 2,600 employees and over 24,000 Dutch and foreign students who have enrolled in one of the seventy degree programmes in the fields of engineering, computer science, economics, technology, health care, nursing, sports, education and teacher training, social work, labour relations, fine arts, and music. On the other hand, Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) is one of the first private universities in Malaysia and is wholly-owned by public-listed Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), one of the largest utility companies in Southeast Asia. It is a well-known institution for higher learning with established programmes in engineering, computer science, information technology, accounting, finance and business management. It is also a research centre and offers various consultancy services. Though relatively new, UNITEN is moving rapidly towards establishing itself as the regional centre of educational excellence.
