Safety Precautions During This General Election
TNB would like to advise all political parties not to place flags or flag poles near any electrical installations such as transmission towers, electrical poles, feeder pillars, substations, concrete electrical poles and overhead lines. It is a dangerous activity that could potentially cause electric shocks and/or flashovers.
A flashover is a high-voltage electric short circuit that occurs through the air when an object gets too close to the conductors or due to overload. It may lead to electrical accidents that damage properties and possible loss of lives.
“We seek cooperation from all parties not to place party flags or any campaign materials under or/and near any electrical installations to avoid accidents.” said Chief Corporate Officer Datuk Wira Roslan Ab. Rahman. He also reminded the public of the danger of carrying or placing flag bearing bamboo poles under and/or near any electrical installations as this may also cause electric shock to those nearby.
The public is advised to practice the following safety tips :
- Do not place flag poles, or any placards under high voltage overhead lines to avoid any untoward incidents.
- It is not advisable to carry beams, bars or poles bearing flags underneath high voltage overhead lines.
- Trespassing in the vicinity of transmission towers/substations is strictly prohibited.
