08/01/2019

The pilot project for the National Fiberisation & Connectivity Plan (NFCP) developed by the government in collaboration with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has been completed earlier than planned, opening High Speed Broadband (HSBB) access to 1,100 homes in Jasin, Melaka.

Through this pilot project, residents of Jasin Police Quarters, Taman Merbau Perdana, Taman Maju and Felda Kemendor will now enjoy the fastest internet speed to the same degree of a developed nation, reaching 1 gigabit per second (1Gbps) at affordable prices.

"This project is important for the government to assess NFCP’s technical, and safety and commercial reliability aspects. The Government and TNB will look at the overall result of this pilot project to consider the possibility of implementing it on a larger scale across the country," said Communications and Multimedia Minister, Gobind Singh Deo in his officiating speech at the launch of the NFCP Pilot Project, in Jasin Melaka.

Gobind also added, through TNB's telecommunications network, the government believes this high-speed broadband internet service will be more open in a more healthy competition environment. This will indirectly creates a new market landscape, enabling people to enjoy faster and more extensive internet services at affordable prices.

According to Melaka Chief Minister, Adly Zahari, if NFCP is expanded across the country, this high-speed broadband internet facility will provide an added value to the state's economic sector.
"It is quite fitting that the ministry and TNB chose Jasin as the location for NFCP pilot project. Furthermore, the success achieved in Jasin is best to be extended throughout the state of Melaka. If it is implemented in the state, surely it can be done in a shorter period," said Adly.

TNB Chairman, Tan Sri Leo Moggie said the pilot project was another sign that TNB not only ensures the people enjoy reliable electricity supply, but also always provides the best services and empower consumers in terms of technology usage.

Jasin residents in these three pilot project areas can subscribe to the broadband service package offered by eight Retail Service Providers.
