UNITEN R&D signs MoU with HI LUMINUS

06/05/2012

Putrajaya, 7 May 2012 - Climate change is now widely recognized as the major environmental problem facing the globe. In response to the impact and possible effects of climate change, international, regional, national and local initiatives are being developed and implemented to limit and mitigate greenhouse gas emission concentration in the Earth’s atmosphere. One of the measures taken is to explore next generation technologies that are environmentally friendly and beneficial to mankind.

UNITEN R&D (UNRD) and HI LUMINUS intend to join hands to realize this initiative. Both parties have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to conduct R&D on the development of Light Emitted Diode (LED) technologies. The document was officially signed today at the Residence Hotel with Dato’ Seri Professor Mashkuri bin Yaacob representing UNRD and Dato’ Mohamad Rais bin Zainuddin on behalf of Hi Luminus.

This collaboration aims not only to provide opportunities for members of UNRD and Hi Luminus to indulge actively in the R&D of LED technologies but also to participate in organizing technical workshops and seminars to nurture technopreneurs with the intent of commercializing the research outcomes.

The main emphasis of the MoU agreement is the sharing of Hi Luminus’ range of LED technology with URND’s technical division, under the charge of Ir. Dr. Johnny Koh (Technical Marketing Manager), via the Center of Systems and Machine Intelligence (CSMI) and Power Engineering Center (PEC). Both parties will work together as a team to ensure the smooth transfer of LED technology and information that will facilitate URND to carry out appropriate research and development that is beneficial to all parties.

Also present during the signing ceremony were Tan Sri Dato’ Soong Siew Hoong (National Council Member of ACCCIM) and Dato’ Hamdan Bin Mohamad (Vice Chairman of Hi Luminus).
